- First, Get inspired. My two go to's are #dapperday on Instagram and Dapper Day on Pinterest. All sophisticated attire is encouraged from vintage-inspired classics to chic, contemporary looks. If you are active or retired military, you are encouraged to wear your dress blues or service uniforms if you like.
- Decide if you are going to Disneybound or just dress up! Either is fine, but "Dapper-bounding" adds and extra level of fun to the whole day! But note that costumes or cosplay is not allowed and are better suited for other events.
- Find an outfit. Look for something that you already own that will work, shop thrift or vintage shops, or shop online at Poshmark (for something secondhand) or Amazon. If you are creative and can sew, that is also a great option - you can find many vintage patterns online.
- Accessorize! Whether you are representing a Disney character, or just a particular era/style, it's all about the details. - bags, sunglasses, jewelry, and hats! If you have a full skirt, you need a petticoat! It will fluff up your skirt and make you look great! It's also so much fun to twirl in a petticoat!!! Malcomodes is the standard in petticoats - they are soft (not scratchy!) and breathable! One is all you "need" - but has that ever stopped you before??!?!
- Shoes. Yes, you will see people in heels. Most of them have flats in their bag - and if they don't, they wish they did! If you aren't comfortable in heels, don't wear them! Rothy's are comfortable, come in all kinds of colors, and are machine washable! Get $20 by following this link and putting in your email address - they will send you a coupon code to use!
- It's not a competition Don't get caught up in trying to be perfect or outdo someone else. Dapper Day is about having a fun day in the parks - so don't worry about your outfit not being "good enough" or trying to meet some standard you have imagined. While you are there you will get inspiration and great ideas for future Dapper Days, but I promise no one is judging your outfit or thinking it isn't "dapper" enough. It's about having fun and making friends.
- Make friends. It may be out of your comfort zone but Dapper Day is all about making friends! Find a Dapper Day "event" page on facebook. A great group to join is D3 Darlins. Once you find out about some of the photo meet-ups, go check them out and talk to people!
So - will we see you at Fall Dapper Day?? We will be there and would love to meet you!!!
