A visit to the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, Georgia

We love museums and have a family membership to the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, Georgia.  It's close enough for us to head there pretty often and both of our kids love it!

The first thing you see as you come in is the Discovery House, and the first floor is the Humanist's Study - with a giant Polar Bear, and what we call the "geography" room with a huge globe and map of the world.  For a time, our boy was obsessed with maps and this room was a favorite!

The first floor also boasts the mini-zoo, where there are more than 70 animals.  They also have animal shows where they showcase some of the animals and even let guests greet them!

Up on the second floor is the Artist's Garret, where there are puzzles, games, and our personal favorite, the Lightbox!

You can also see a bird's eye view of the mini-zoo from the 2nd floor by walking out onto an overlook!

Down in the basement, you will find the Scientist's Workshop, where there are a number of hands-on activities!  Play with sound, forecast the weather, dig for fossils, and learn about gravity!

In addition to all of that, the museum has Science on a Sphere and a Planetarium that offers daily shows.  There is also an observatory that offers visitors the opportunity to view the night sky over Macon through powerful telescopes!

If you are driving down I-75 through middle Georgia, the Museum of Arts and Sciences is a great stop, especially if you have kids!

What is a great museum that is local to you?  I need to add some great museums to my travel bucket list!
