Enjoying the Epcot Food and Wine Festival with kids

Epcot is our family's favorite park at Walt Disney World, and we love going to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival in the fall.  Food and Wine is a great date event for adults, but it's also a blast with kids!  Here are my best tips for having a great time as a family at Food and Wine.

Play

The Food and Wine Festival features a play zone for the kids near the Festival Center and it was a hit with our kids.  I'm pretty sure it was their favorite part of the day!  With Ralph Wrecks the Internet coming to theaters next month, it is themed to promote that movie, and it has tons of playground equipment for kids to use to get their energy out.  There are chairs for the adults to relax, so it's a win-win if you are visiting the festival as a family.

The Light Lab

There are a number of tasting and pairing events targeted at adults during Food and Wine, but the Light Lab has something for everyone!  They have a Phosphorescent Phlight that offers 3 different  frozen drinks and invites you to guess the flavors.  There is a special magnifying glass that you can use the see what the flavors are after you have tasted them.  This was so much fun!  The environment was fun, the drinks were delicious (and sufficiently sugary to please the kids), and each drink came with a ice cube light.  Our 4 year old is still talking about her visit to the Light Lab a week later!

Eat

This is the fun part of the Food and Wine Festival!  Let everyone pick something fun to eat!  The small portion sizes make them perfect for kids - and if they don't like it you haven't spent a ton of money!  Our kids love the Festival booklets that tell what each area offers - and they have stickers in them to mark all the places you visit!

Enjoy the music

There is the Eat to the Beat concert series at the Food and Wine Festival, but there also many other opportunities to enjoy music at the park.  We love the JAMMitors in Future World all year, and during the Food and Wine they have a food themed show as the JAMMichefs!

No visit to Epcot is complete for us without getting to hear Carol play at the Rose and Crown Pub in the UK Pavilion.  It can be crowded, but hearing her play is worth the trouble - park your stroller outside and take the kids in for some air conditioning and great tunes.

Finally, this year there is a Chip and Dale Dance Party by the Fountains.  It is close to the Family Play area and targeted to kids.  It's a great opportunity for the kids to dance with some of their favorite characters!

So there you have it.  Proof that Food and Wine isn't just for adults and that there is something for everyone to enjoy! So don't hesitate to take the family to enjoy all that the Food and Wine Festival has to offer - there are still a few weeks left!
