Shop your Closet!

There is no way around it - ethical fashion can be pricey - when people are paid a fair wage for their work, that translates into higher prices for clothing, jewelry, and accessories.  However, there is an inexpensive way to get started with ethical fashion - in fact, it's FREE!!

It is shopping your own closet!

Why should you shop your own closet?
  1. It's easy - you don't have to go anywhere.  Your closet is right there in your house!
  2. It's free - you don't have to spend a dime to do it!
  3. It is the easiest way to join the slow fashion movement - by wearing what you already have, you aren't adding to the problem of slave labor or the environmental impact caused by fast fashion.
How do you shop your closet?
  1. Organize your clothes.  Make sure everything is easy to find and go through. If possible, hang everything up, as that will make it easier.
  2. Go in order.  Wear your clothes in the order they are hanging in your closet. It's okay to skip things if you just don't want to wear it or can't find something to match it.  (If you skip something all month you might need to get rid of it.)
  3. Take outfit of the day photos.  This may not seem important, but it is VERY important! Have you ever looked a photo of yourself and thought, "Man! That dress isn't very flattering!" - Taking an outfit photo every day will help you look at yourself in your clothes more objectively.  You can take a mirror selfie, have a family member or friend take your picture, or use a remote shutter or camera timer.

Later in the month, I'll share what to do with the clothes you never wore or didn't like.  For now, just try to work through your clothes and wear what you have!
