Happy National Recycling Day!

Today is America Recycles Day, a day to celebrate what we are doing well and to reflect on ways we can do better.

By now you probably heard to "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle," but we hardly ever hear about upcycling, which is taking something old and reusing or re-purposing it into something new! Although my favorite way to recycle is shopping for second hand clothes at a thrift store, I also love when companies are intentional in using recycled items in their products and upcycling them into new products.

Trades of Hope is a fair trade company that works with artisan groups around the world to empower women out of poverty - and many of their products are upcycled!

Here are some examples of my favorites!

The Dare to Dream Earrings are made in Haiti
and are made out of leather and upcycled from steel oil drums.

The Sea Glass Necklace, made in Jordan,
is made from glass bottles from area restaurants,
and the glass is tumbled to create the look of sea glass!

The Mosaic clutch is made out of a traditional
blouse material in Guatemala called huipil.
This means that each clutch is as unique as the woman who made it!

upcycled from sari fabric beads.

What are your favorite ways to repurpose, reuse  and upcycle?
