Priorities

What are your priorities for 2017?  Did you make resolutions?

I do not make resolutions.  For a lot of reasons, but mainly because I know that I won't keep resolutions.

However, I do have priorities.  Some are intentional, most are not intentional.  This year I want to make sure that my priorities are intentional.  And that they match up with my passions.

So what are these passions?

  • Faith
  • Family
  • Adventure/Travel
  • Giving
  • Reading/Learning

My first passion is my faith.  One that I'm ashamed that I haven't made a priority.  My second is family - first my marriage, and then my kids.  I also have to admit that I don't have that in the best order either.  Another is giving, another reading/learning (I am a library lady after all!), and travel/adventure.  This year I want to make sure that my priorities match my life passions instead of floating along letting my priorities be unintentional.

What is a priority?  According to the dictionary, it is a thing that is regarded as more important than another and something that is treated as more important.

In real life, what are my priorities?  To be honest, not the things I want them to be.  I spend far too much time with my phone in my hand.  In order to change this, I have to make some practical changes.  I have been charging my phone by my bed.  The issue with that is that when I do that, my phone (and social media) is the last thing I look at before I go to bed and the first thing I look at when I wake up.  NOT what I want my first priority to be on a daily basis!  So I am now charging my phone in the kitchen and I got a real alarm clock to wake me up - the bonus of this is I have to actually get out of bed to turn it off - so maybe I'll be able to get out of bed earlier in the morning!  We'll see!

So what am I replacing social media with at those times?  The Bible and devotional material.

At this point I need to have everything laid out for me so I'm going to read Jesus Calling in the morning and the One Year Chronological Bible at night.  That way instead of social media, the Bible will be what I am focused on first thing in the morning and last thing at night.  Which will help me prioritize my first passion - my faith.

So even though I don't have resolutions for the year, I am planning on making some practical changes to make my life more what I want it to be.  I'll keep you posted!  :)
